About avago
avago is a modern, privacy-focused image and video conversion tool designed to run entirely in your browser. Unlike traditional web-based converters that require you to upload your files to a server, avago processes everything locally on your device using WebAssembly for video when needed. Your files never leave your computer.
Supported Formats
avago supports conversion between the following image formats:
- PNG - Lossless compression with transparency support
- JPEG - Lossy compression best for photographs
- WebP - Modern format with excellent compression
- AVIF - Next-generation format with superior compression
- BMP - Uncompressed bitmap format
- ICO - Icon format for websites and applications
Video Support (MP4 → WebM)
avago also converts video files entirely in your browser (no server uploads):
- Input: MP4, MOV (QuickTime), WebM
- Output: WebM container with VP8 (recommended for browser stability) or VP9 (better compression, may retry as VP8 on some inputs) + optional Opus audio
- Controls: CRF quality (15–45), max resolution scaling, keep/strip audio, encoding speed presets (fast/balanced/best compression)
Max file size 250 MB. Video transcoding is CPU/memory heavy — best experienced on desktop with plenty of RAM. A 30–60s 720p clip typically takes 30s–4 minutes depending on settings and your device.
Additionally, we're working on adding support for:
- HEIC/HEIF - High-efficiency image formats commonly used on iOS devices
- SVG - Scalable Vector Graphics format
- GIF - Animated image format
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a limit to how many files I can convert?
Up to 25 images or 5 videos per batch. The lower video limit and 250 MB per-file cap help keep conversions practical given the CPU and memory demands of client-side video encoding.
What happens to my files after conversion?
Nothing! Your original and converted files remain solely on your device. They are never uploaded to any server.
How does video (MP4 to WebM) conversion work? Is it fast?
Video conversion uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly and runs 100% in your browser. It gives you professional-grade controls (CRF, VP9, scaling, audio). A short 720p clip usually finishes in under a few minutes on a modern desktop. Larger 250 MB or long/high-res videos take longer and require more RAM — we recommend desktop browsers.
Is there a mobile app version?
avago is designed to work on all devices, including mobile phones and tablets. There's no need for a separate app. Video conversion performs best on desktop.
